Trans bodies that stage their own lives, invent their own places, and build their own worlds.

Nadia Beugré navigates between Montpellier and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) where she grew up. In her most recent piece, she works with performers from the trans community of Abidjan. Designated boys at birth, they move between genders, in an extremely patriarchal society that prefers to look the other way.

Hairdressers by day and dance floor divas by night, they transgress individual, family, social and historical binaries regarding what is beautiful or ugly, male or female, legal or illegal.

Everything here is to be seen and heard – proof that they have been born and are claiming their freedom. Through the networks of solidarity that they weave and braid, they invent their own dances and the means of their survival.

Post-show Talk

On November 24, the performance will be followed by a talk with Nadia Beugré and David J. Amado, moderated by Raquel Lima (in Portuguese).
