Abed Kobeissy

Abed Kobeissy

Based in Beirut, Abed Kobeissy creates music across various genres, from solo projects to music for film, theatre, and dance. Centred on the Levantine buzuq, his music carries a strong local identity, while unapologetically embracing the confusion of the present, shaped by urban soundscapes and themes of family and home.

He has received commissions from The Berlin Biennale, UNESCO, CTM Festival, and Irtijal/Huddersfield, among others. A Sundance Institute fellow (2020), he co-founded the projects Two or The Dragon and Stellar Banger, releasing multiple albums. His collaborations include work with music producer Sary Moussa, most notably Christmas in Mourning, a collaboration with the tenor of the Nativity Church in Bethlehem.

Kobeissy holds a Master’s degree in Music Semiotics and has lectured at the Lebanese American University.
