Leonardo Mouramateus was born in Fortaleza, Brazil. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Audiovisuals from the Federal University of Ceará and an MFA in Multimedia Art from the University of Lisbon. He has written and directed a dozen award-winning films, presented at Locarno, Rotterdam, Cinéma du Réel, Festival dei Popoli, and Doclisboa, among other festivals. His films have been shown at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou (Paris), MASP (São Paulo), Lincoln Center (Nova York), and the French Cinemathèque. He has also collaborated in the creation and dramaturgy of dance pieces by João Fiadeiro (From Afar It Was An Island; De Perto, Uma Pedra; Ça va Exploser – co-directed with Carolina Campos) and Luara Luarth Moreira (RaioRaio LamaLama), and created audiovisual compositions for theatre (A Parede, by Alexandre Pieroni Calado).
