KING SIZE seeks to confront the devices of creation and dramaturgy of contemporary drag performances with the rigid gender representation codes in traditional dance and theater, highlighting the differences between what is natural and what is a cultural or staged construction.
Drag subverts gender roles, reinforcing theatrical aspects of these interpretations, but it is also a form of social criticism and a means of artistic expression. Drag king/queer shows - and what one can call spectacular masculinity - allow us to review the staging of masculinity and question what is gender performance?
KING SIZE aims to analyze how masculinity is constructed, in order to give new meanings to the relationships between nature, gender and sex. Focusing on figures that embody masculine myths- such as the prophets- as well as their parodic reinterpretations, this creation seeks to stage a game of disidentification that resists the pressures of sexual binarism, in society and in art.
