Terra Batida in residency at Espaço Alkantara
Exercício de Montagem

- 30.06 — 13.07 2025
Exercício de Montagem follows on from the performance DESVER, presented at Alkantara in October 2023, and which has since been performed in various locations across the country. In it, the diary of a journey to Palestine in 2023 is shared. Exercício de Montagem revisits the footage filmed during that trip, as well as from a second journey in 2024, and attempts to make sense of it—or several senses—drawing on voices heard in a country under occupation. The project is a collaboration with Palestinian artist Mary-Lian Djadjanidze.
The residency at Espaço Alkantara, from 30 June to 13 July, marks the first stage in the creation of this interdisciplinary project, which is set to premiere in 2026.
Bios
Teatro do Vestido is a theatre collective founded in 2001, whose first play, Tua, premiered at Galeria Zé dos Bois. At its core are the writing of original dramatic texts, the search for alternative performance spaces, the observation of reality, ethnographic research, and oral history, which form the company’s main working methodologies. The company continually seeks new ways of creating autobiographical, political, engaged, and poetic theatre through collaborative processes, under the artistic direction of Joana Craveiro. The company’s permanent team also includes Alaíde Costa, Estêvão Antunes, Francisco Madureira, Leocádia Silva, Maria Inês Augusto, and Tânia Guerreiro.
Joana Craveiro is a director, filmmaker, playwright, actress, teacher, and anthropologist. She founded Teatro do Vestido in 2001 and has directed it ever since. Her work draws on the methodologies of oral history and anthropology to investigate and create theatre pieces, performances, documentary films, and various texts, based on life stories, archives, and a careful, political, and poetic observation of reality. She is an associate researcher at IHC/NOVA and a member of the European playwrights’ network, Fabula Mundi. She is also the coordinator of the BA in Theatre at ESAD.CR.
