Language

This year’s programme includes performances in Anishinaabemowin, Inga, English (EN), French (FR), Portuguese (PT), and Spanish (ES). The languages used in each performance are indicated next to a speech bubble icon.

Surtitles and Captions

Most performances offer surtitles, with a screen on stage showing text in both English and Portuguese, regardless of what language is being spoken on stage. In addition, many of our surtitles also include descriptions of sounds, which may be useful for people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing.

Physical Aspects of the Performance

Individual show pages contain icons indicating the use of strobe lights, haze, smoke, or loud noise.

Quiet Area

Some events include a designated Quiet Area where you are welcome to take a break, as needed.

Most of our venues are wheelchair accessible, with the exception of Casa da Dança, Casa Independente (access via stairs), Culturgest – Garagem (access via steep ramp) and Winter Garden (does not provide accessible toilets). Portuguese Sign Language Interpreted Performances

In these performances, an interpreter will be on or near the stage, providing live interpretation of what is being said by the performers.

The following performance will provide Portuguese Sign Language interpretation:
The secret lives of old people 23 Nov

Audio Described Performances

Audio described performances provide listeners with additional commentary about visual aspects of the performance via live headsets. Audio described performances include a touch tour before the performance, to provide audience members with additional information about the performance space.

The following performances will be audio described (in Portuguese):
The Bride and Goodnight Cinderella 16 Nov
The secret lives of old people 23 Nov
52blue 24 Nov

Content Notes

We have included content notes on the individual show pages. These indicate sensitive content that may not otherwise be clear in the description of the work (such as references to sexual violence or suicide) and information about physical aspects of the performance (such as if the audience is expected to move or if food will be served).
