Espaço Alkantara is a heritage building located at 99 Calçada Marquês de Abrantes in the Santos neighbourhood in Lisbon. It has been our centre of operations since the city granted Alkantara the use of the building in 2007.
For any questions about Espaço Alkantara, please contact our producer Francisco Benedy (email).
Studio
Our studio (130m2) is located in a former industrial space, that opens on to a large outdoor patio. It has a sprung floor (dance marley can also be installed) and high wooden ceilings. There is a simple grid that can be used to hang lights. There are blackout blinds on the doors, and the studio is air conditioned.
Espaço Alkantara does not have permanent technical staff. Click here for the groundplan of the studio and a list of available technical equipment.
The studio is accessible to wheelchair users. An adapted bathroom is available on the same floor.
Offices
The Alkantara offices are located on the first floor at Espaço Alkantara. We share the space with other independent arts organisations and professionals, including Materiais Diversos, Casa Branca, Parasita, P.OR.K, and MãoSimMão.
If you are an independent producer or artist who needs a place to do desk work, please send an email to Francisco Benedy (email).
The office is only accesible via stairs.
A new studio at Espaço Alkantara
In 2018, we completed the first phase of a renovation project on the ground floor of Espaço Alkantara that included adding a bathroom and completing a partial demolition. The second phase of the renovation, which involves building a new studio space, is currently awaiting city approval.
Espaço Alkantara underwent a first renovation in 2008, designed by Voar Arquitetura (Jordi Fornells).
