Tiziano Cruz draws on archival material and his own memories to pay tribute to those who have died and to communities under threat.
Wayqeycuna is a quechua word meaning “my brother and sisters”, used to refer to family and community bonds.
Following his sister’s death, Tiziano Cruz travelled to his childhood home in northern Argentina to reconnect with his Indigenous community. Based on those reencounters, he creates a tribute to the dead, a moment of reconciliation after sadness and rage.
This performance is the final part of the trilogy Tres Maneras de Cantarle a una Montaña [Three Ways to Sing to a Mountain]. Through a series of poetic gestures, the artist articulates archival material of his early memories with a critical perspective on the art market and class privilege.
