Espaço Alkantara hosts a performance cycle showcasing the work developed during the PACAP 2, a 6-month advanced training programme curated by Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz.

“The second edition of PACAP began with an invitation to failure. Failure as a necessary condition of doing, inseparable from the risk of imagining and speculating based on our parcial experience of the world.

Fifteen artists from Brazil, France, Italy, Lithuania, Uruguay, and Portugal accepted the invitation. Ranging in age from 23 to 38, their backgrounds include performing arts, visual arts, design, urban dance, and theatre. Each artists took their peers as the main resources of the programme, forming a micro-community of almost utopian contours.

This is the first public presentation in the six months of PACAP, which began in September 2018 and runs until March 2019. The cycle of 14 pieces reflects a diversity of imaginaries, modes of composition, and articulations of form and content, discourse and language. The pieces are 20 to 40 minutes long, produced in a short period of time and in a collective environment. They are as much the work of their protagonists as the people who accompanied and influenced them. This is a shared responsibility, which we extend to our audiences. We hope you will not only see the performances, but also meet the artists, speak with them, and take pleasure in unfolding the meanings in the work. PACAP, as a creation programme, is completed in this dialogue, recognising itself in its community.

Artist Bio

Arianna Aragno trained as an actor and performer with Cesare Ronconi, Lucia Palladino, Mariangela Gualtieri, Leonardo Capuano, and Raffaella Boscolo, among others.
In 2015 she began her collaboration as a performer with the company Teatro Valdoca for the creation of Giuramenti, which premiered in 2017.

In that process, she also participated in the documentary Gli Indocili (directed by Ana Shametaj, produced by Ubulibri), released in January 2018. She attended the training course “Risco” at c.e.m. (Lisbon). Currently, she is part of the Advanced Program in Performing Arts (PACAP 2), where she is developing her first solo work. In this context she is interested in the idea of continuous transformation, which happens in the encounters between a body and something/someone.

El universo no se asemeja a nada by Bruno Brandolino

The universe resembles nothing is an exploration of that which lives on the margins of our ontological and societal structure. A call for destabilising forces to question our foundations. Artist Bio

Bruno Brandolino (Montevideo) is a performer and creator in the performing arts. He completed a BA in acting at the Multidisciplinary School for Dramatic Arts (EMAD) and the four-year dance training program at inDANS – School for the Arts of Movement.

He has mainly worked as a dancer/performer for the Uruguayan based companies Perro Rabioso and GEN Danza, headed by choreographers Tamara Cubas and Andrea Arobba, respectively. He has performed in Latin America and Europe. He has also taken part in independent theatre productions in Uruguay as both an actor and an acting coach. Currently, he is participating in the Advanced Program in Performing Arts (PACAP 2) at Forum Dança – Cultural Association in Lisbon (PT) curated by the dance makers Sofia Dias & Vitor Roriz, where he is developing his first solo work. The Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) awarded him a scholarship for the completion of this programme.

Bocuda by Nina Giovelli

Bocuda is a pre-language reverie of a body with desire of constant actualisation. It starts from the question of what makes the body react with pleasure and/or insurrection and explores the relations between what happens inside and outside the body. A performative programme to talk before thinking, to activate and share imaginaries; a composition of palpable reality, memories, and imagination. (Nina Giovelli)

Artist Bio

Nina Giovelli is a Brazilian performer, dancer and educator. She holds a BA in Dance from the University of Campinas and trained at the Experimental Nucleus of Performing Arts in São Paulo. She was a regular teacher and a resident artist at Centro de Referência da Dança de São Paulo.

She received a Denilto Gomes Award for her solo Deviant. Performance credits include an attempt at a self-portrait in a world of selfies by invitation of the Museum of Image and Sound. She worked at Núcleo Artérias with the choreographer Adriana Grechi for six years as a collaborating artist and performer. Currently she is developing her research in between the sensorial, the motor and the imaginaries of the body, by participating in the Advanced Program in Performing Arts II at Forum Dança under the curatorship of Sofia Dia s& Vitor Roriz in Lisbon (PT), where she developed the solo performance Bocuda (2019). She is also in process of training in Somatic Movement Education through the technique Body Mind Movement with Mark Taylor.
