Born in Luanda, Angola, in 1987, and was raised in Portugal. He had a bursary, from Centro Nacional de Cultura, for training in dance and performance at c.e.m - centro em movimento, and is trained in theatre and animação by CERCICA. He is a resident actor at Teatro Griot where he worked as an actor in shows directed by Zia Soares, Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno M. Cardoso, Guilherme Mendonça, Bruno Bravo, António Pires, João Fiadeiro, Hélder Costa e Paula Diogo, José Carretas, Maria Amélia Videira and Genoveva Faísca.
His performance Preta was shown in the Netherlands pavilion at the 17th Venice Biennial (in video, due to the pandemic context) as part of the Space of Others project, by Afaina de Jong. He also developed the Memória Botânica project, in partnership with Sofia Berberan and, in 2022, was part of the NEW TACTICS FOR UNSEEN BODIES by the visual artist Michelle Eistrup, presented at Documenta 2022. In film, Gio Lourenço worked as an actor in O Lugar que Ocupas, by Pedro Filipe Marques, Tempestades, Ensaio de um Ensaio, by Uli Decker, A Ilha dos cães, by Jorge António, Arriaga, by Welket Bungué, Filmes e Telemóvel, by Adriano Luz, and Verdade Inconveniente, by Pedro Sebastião and Paulo Cuco. For TV he was part of the series Equador, Inspector Max, and Ele é Ela. He also worked as a dancer in several music videos.
