tony omolu, Black and non-binary artist, has started a PhD in Artistic Education at the University of Lisbon. They hold a Master's in Arts, where they conducted research on the dramaturgy of the Orixás dance of Master Augusto Omolu, at UFU/MG. They have a postgraduate degree in Theatrical Interpretation from UFU/MG and a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from UFU/MG. They are a professor and Artistic Director of the Extension and Culture Programme – Corpoencena (performing arts) and have training and aesthetic experience in artistic-cultural and pedagogical production – UFG/GO. They taught the subject of Orixás dance dramaturgy at the Theatre Faculty of UFU/MG. tony danced and choreographed for the Afro dance company of the city of Uberlândia, danced and choreographed for the Strondum Contemporary Dance Company, acted and performed in the Diferente Theatre Company, danced with the Congado group Marinheiro de São Benedito, and danced for the samba school Tabajara. They worked as an art educator in various socio-cultural projects with children and adolescents. Tony is a small father of Umbanda at the terreiro Ilê Asé Osun Byy.
In Portugal, they created the performance Brincadeira Cénica with children from the Jamaica neighbourhood, presented at the MAAT. They conceived, directed, and presented the performances Escada, Iabás, and Em Cor Parda. They develop their work with the support of CEM Centro em Movimento. A founding member of the Afrontosas Collective, as an artist, tony navigates the realms of theatre, Afro-Brazilian dances, and contemporary dance. A queer and anti-racist artivist, they create and produce their performances as instruments of ethical-aesthetic-political actions.
