EPI TRAVESTY is a visual album by the Brazilian afrotravesti singer Áquilla Correia (aka Puta da Silva), produced by Alexson Silva.
The visual research for the video is a collection of conversations and images of the lives of travesti artists in the diaspora, who are often excluded from local arts scenes and survive through prostitution. Building on a utopia of survival, the dramaturgy of the video focuses on elevating travesti life, transforming a social taboo into an intelectual and cultural totem.
Áquilla Correia is a Brazilian afrotravesti artist who has lived in Lisbon for three years. She studied Theatre at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and holds a Master’s degree in Theater and Community from the Lisbon Film and Theatre School. Aquilla’s work engages with gender identity and allows travesti bodies to be the protagonists of their own stories. She directed Benedites, with more than 50 travesti and non-binary bodies on stage. In Lisbon, Áquilla has worked as a voice actor for television. She performed in Madonna’s 2019 music video “Medellín” (ft. Maluma) and in the music video for Blaya’s “Baza”.
