Lighting Desk: Image and Imagination | talk

A listening device focused on the present and the imagination of possible futures within the framework of stage lighting practice, in poetic, practical, political, and professional terms.

A circular conversation arrangement between lighting designers and the audience, where we will also share the results of the survey on the inclusion of cis women, trans, and non-binary people in technical teams, conducted in collaboration between matéria leve and Acesso Cultura.

Based on an exhibition about the present, the audience will be able to participate actively in a collective conversation to speculate on possible futures for the practice of lighting.

Acesso Cultura

Acesso Cultura is a non-profit organisation that promotes physical, social, and intellectual access to cultural participation in Portugal. Its mission is to place issues of accessibility and inclusion at the heart of reflection and practice within the cultural sector, defending the cultural rights that allow individuals and communities to express their humanity through the arts.

The organisation works to eliminate social barriers that hinder equitable access to cultural life, developing training, research, and advocacy projects alongside cultural institutions, artists, and managers. Notable among its initiatives is the Cultura Acessível project, a digital platform that gathers information on accessible cultural programming across Portugal.

Acesso Cultura is a founding member and active partner in European networks such as Culture Action Europe and participates in international projects on inclusion and diversity in the performing arts sector. The organisation also publishes reports and studies on accessibility, participation, and cultural democracy, contributing to the public debate on more inclusive cultural policies.

matéria leve
