violetas is an intimate dance piece where one exists and resists in a minimalist environment. It presents the dancing body as unique and self-sufficient.
violetas plays with expectation and perception, moving from the initial challenge to an eventual stimulation of the senses.
Set in an environment that recreates a space of intimacy and reflection, it creates universes of malleability, complexity, and subjectivity, inviting reflection on margins, centers, and the spaces in between. What we project and what we presume.

After a first public encounter in an Open Studio moment at Casa da Dança, as part of the Alkantara Festival 2024, Vânia Doutel Vaz returns to our studio for an artistic residency, this time with violetas. The project is set to premiere in November at the Alkantara Festival 2025.
Vânia Doutel Vaz is a Portuguese-born Angolan dancer and choreographer. Vaz studied dance at the Royal Dance Academy, Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional, and Forum Dança. She was a member of Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporâneo, Nederlands Dans Theater, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (CLCB), and PUNCHDRUNK.
