As part of the ‘Curatorship for Developmentt’ training programme
Alkantara welcomes Yannick Fortes, a Cape Verdean actor, director and playwright, as part of the advanced training programme Curatorship for Development, organised by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with the support of Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, I.P. Yannick will be at Alkantara from September to December, working closely with the Artistic Direction.
Aimed at curators and cultural professionals from the PALOP countries (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe) and Timor-Leste, the programme seeks to strengthen skills in the field of curating and contribute to recognising cultural assets as drivers of sustainable development. It also explores the potential of curating to create economic value and promote inclusion.
The programme combines an online theoretical course in art curating with placements at leading cultural institutions in Portugal, involving up to 25 selected participants, and culminates in a final gathering. It is in this context that Yannick joins Alkantara, with the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the processes of research, reflection and artistic programming.
Yannick Fortes holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from NOVA University Lisbon – FCSH. He is the founder of Companhia 50 Pessoa and was a member of the board of the Mindelact Festival for several years. In 2022, he won the National Playwriting Competition and was also involved in introducing cabaret theatre to Cape Verde.
