Noha Ramadan
AfterMyth (and we shimmered as we crossed from one reality to another…)
A looping dream-scape of dancing guardians, pop-horror mythology, and a shadowy figure singing the body back.
Projected across three silver screens, masked figures dance on a desolate, snow-covered beach. Set in an unnamed, ambiguous future, their disaffected cheerleading and navigational gestures appear as remnants of a world that has ended.
Through the cinematic language of a pop-horror dream sequence, Noha Ramadan draws inspiration from Ancient Egyptian funerary iconography — where guardians stand watch at the gates between realms — to propose a choreography of images and voice in motion. As the dance loops endlessly on screen, other forces unfold in the darkness of the theatre.
Between ‘here and now’ and ‘there and then’, what can be seen beyond — or behind — the image?

Noha Ramadan creates performances, video, and collective events. Drawing from a long and continuing practice of dance improvisation, their work utilises a distinctly cinematic approach to sound and movement, and attempts to articulate the subject’s capacity to inhabit multiplicity and strange relations. They co-founded Jacuzzi, an artist-run space in Amsterdam, where they organize and support various projects. They grew up on unceded Darug/Guringai land in Australia, and currently live and work in Amsterdam.
