Open Call Blackface
- 31.03 — 15.04 2023
- Open Calls
We are looking for video artists with technical skills on directing, filming, editing and operating video to be part of the artistic team of a show called Blackface, written and performed by Marco Mendonça.
You can apply by filling this form until April, 15th.
Blackface is a musical conference based on the recurrent use of blackface in various social contexts. From popular traditions to television contests, from humor sketch shows to theatre, Marco Mendonça questions the limits of common sense regarding the representation of black people in Portugal.
Parallel to the importance of video in the popularisation of a racist theatre practice, Marco Mendonça intends to use video as one of the central elements both in the research process and the creation process of the show.
This open call is for video artists who are interested in working in this process, considering the ironic and humoristic nature intended for Blackface, as well as the sensitivity of its theme.
The creation process demands availability in the periods mentioned below. We show preference for people living close to Lisbon, where the majority of rehearsals will take place, since there’s no capacity to support logistical costs beyond those indicated in the proposition below (such as traveling, accommodation or food).
