ROD is a researcher and visual artist, Black and queer. They hold a postdoctoral degree from CECS at the University of Minho and a PhD in Sociology from ICS at the University of Lisbon. As a visual artist, they develop work focused on decolonial critique. They have participated in several group exhibitions and solo displays, such as the Lisbon Graphic Fair (2020), Casa do Capitão (2021), Espaço Damas (2021), Bairro em Festa Festival at Largo Residências (2021), Not a Museum Gallery (2021), MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (2022), Lisbon Municipal Galleries (2022/2023), Kilombo in the context of the Alkantara Festival (2023), and have also taken part in festivals and projects, such as the Walk Talk Azores Festival 2020, the project “Community as Immunity”, the “First Draft” project from Teatro do Bairro Alto, Campo de Treino (2021), and De/Codificar Belém, from Colectivo Faca. They developed the set design for the play Casa com Árvores dentro, part of the project Pê – Prefixo de Desumanização, alongside Cláudia Semedo, Gisela Casimiro, Kalaf Epalang, and other artists. They have collaborated with Tony Omolu on set designs and costumes for the performances Iabás, Em Cor Parda, and A Kalunga de Ossayn. In 2023, they held an artistic residency at Largo Residências, where they performed the event Conversas com as águas alongside Ellen Lima, Jahnvi Nandan, and Lolo Arziki. They participated in the project Práticas Expandidas, at Campus Paulo Cunha e Silva, and in MICAR 2023, the Anti-Racist Cinema Festival.
They founded the Afrontosas Collective in 2022 and also helped create UNA – União Negra das Artes. Through the collectives they participate in, they have developed various projects in the fields of visual and performing arts, as well as the qualification of art professionals, such as the creation of LACRE, which took place in 2023 with the support of the Goethe-Institut Lisbon, and the project Discurso (2023), from Teatro do Bairro Alto, curated by Melissa Rodrigues.
