Jorge Ciprianno in residence Espaço Alkantara
Ciclos [Cicles]

- 27.07 — 09.08 2026
Ciclos [Cicles] is a performative investigation led by Jorge Ciprianno into the relationships between body, ancestry, spiralled time, and Afro-diasporic practices of presence. The residency offers a period of research and scenic development dedicated to constructing the physical, sonic, and visual language of the work, which is still in the process of maturing.
Drawing on the Yoruba worldview and the Sankofa principle from the Akan tradition, the project investigates modes of composition in which the body functions as a living archive, a field of listening, and a territory for the re-inscription of memory. The research seeks to displace the idea of linear time and approach the stage as a spiral: return, repetition, variation, convocation, and transformation. During the residency, movement scores linked to Afro-Bahian and Afro-contemporary practices, the gestural precision of Odissi, and the rhythmic vibration of Gnawa percussion will be deepened, observing the points of contact between spirituality, displacement, diaspora, and creation.
During the residency at Espaço Alkantara, between 27 July and 9 August, Jorge Ciprianno and the artistic team will dedicate themselves to musical composition and sound research, movement exploration, developing the narrative of the projections, and defining the lighting principles for the future staging.
