A duet that draws on surrealism, opening onto the unimaginable.
Coisa-Ponta grows out of a long-standing affinity between Ana Rita Teodoro and Márcia Lança, dating back to 1999, when they first encountered surrealist art together. This event opened a fascinating rupture that led them into an artistic process shaped by the temporary sleep of deliberate purpose, as a way of opening onto the unimaginable. Surrealism also offered them a multiple space that no single discipline could provide on its own — to be surrealist is a serious thing (Coisa-Séria).
In this work, they seek to bring their ethical and aesthetic affinity into conversation with surrealist techniques. By activating their modes of making as compositional strategies — the collision of materials, the suspension of conscious action, the bringing together of things that would at first seem separate — Coisa-Ponta creates an uneven space where the sensible and the nonsense rule as random queens.

Ana Rita Teodoro. Barreiro 1982. Holds a Master from the CNDC in Angers and from the University Paris 8, where she started working on her project Delirious Anatomy, drawing on her scientific and philosophical studies. She recently receives a grant to study with Yoshito Ohno from the Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian and was a recipient of the Aide à la recherche et au Patrimoine en Danse from the CN D, to continue her research into the butoh. Márcia Lança (Lisbon, 1976) is a doctoral candidate in Artistic Studies at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her research interests include the postcolonial debate, cultural programming, memorialisation, platforms for discourse, and African Studies. She is the editor of the website BUALA and writes for publications in Portugal, Angola, and Brazil. She has translated works by Maxence Fermine, Jacques-Pierre Amettea, Asger Jorn, and Achille Mbembe. She has taught at Universidade Agostinho Neto, in Luanda.
