This intervention proposes a shift in the analysis of images: moving from their traditional understanding as objects of representation toward their performative nature. Images establish practices, gestures, and world-configurations; they activate relationships and produce modes of sensory perception. In this sense, the performativity of images opens a field that places us beyond the logic of reference, allowing us to consider their capacity to intervene in reality and unlock alternative forms of experience.
Consequently, through their performative nature, images can produce the material conditions to generate an encounter that involves not only the gaze, but also the corporeal, affective, and political dimensions. The image is presented as a ‘dispositive’—a mechanism with the potential to interrogate our present, articulate a critical space, and introduce new possibilities into life.

matéria leve is a platform for research and training in stage lighting oordinated by Leticia Skrycky in collaboration with Carolina Campos, aimed at cisgender women, non-binary and transgender people.
