We live in a time of extreme loneliness, anxiety and uncertainty. Our bodies feel increasingly isolated, frozen and passive in response to the fragmentation of modern life. One of the greatest challenges we face today is isolation – both social and emotional. Yet rituals have long existed to counteract this, offering spaces for gathering, sharing and mutual support.
Henna Night, a deeply rooted Anatolian tradition, is one such ritual that has always been about community, about holding and being held. In this performative lecture, Can Bora opens up the universe of his latest creation Henna Night Reimagined that explores what happens when rituals are queered –stripped of heteronormative expectations and opened up to new ways of being together.
At its core, Henna Night Reimagined is a call to reimagine connection – to step into a ritual as an active, breathing presence rather than a passive onlooker. It is an act of resistance against isolation and a reawakening of the body’s power to create, transform and belong.
