They were present at the Alkantara Festival 2022 performance party, organised by Núcleo MeioFio, and participated in Queer Art Lab's IMERSÃO 2024, a performing arts laboratory that took over our studio last April. Izabel Nejur now returns to Espaço Alkantara with their first solo performance in Portugal: GIGANTESCA. The creation was selected to be part of the SELF-UNCENSORED project - On Self-Censorship in Art and it will be presented in October, at the IMERSÃO 24 Festival, in Lisbon.
GIGANTESCA seeks to transcend the conventional limits of artistic expression, diving into a poetic and literal journey through force and insistence.
GIGANTESCA is an engaging and chameleonic work that develops in a continuous process of transformation. Izabel Nejur dives into a deep immersion within the sound and the visual landscape, where their memories serve as a guide in their search for an insistence that transcends the physical, manifesting itself in a sweaty and poetic way.
In this immersive performance, Nejur explores the memories of their own existence, navigating emotional and physical territories filled with intense moments, where inner strength intertwines with fragility, creating a web of sensory experiences. The audience is invited to witness this metamorphosis in real time, being transported to Nejur's intimate and profound universe where every movement, gesture and breath carries a meaning. The proposal is for a delirious environment with a performance that becomes a visual and sensory manifesto. Rising, resisting, perspiring, agitating and exorcising their relationship with force in a ritual.
GIGANTESCA has already been presented at Rua das Gaivotas 6 (Lisbon), IMERSÃO Festival (Lisbon) and Galeria Zé dos Bois (Lisbon) in different versions.
