BRABA.plataforma is an organisation that supports and facilitates creative actions led by or directed at trans and nonbinary people. As part of the 2024 Alkantara Festival, BRABA presents a showcase featuring three collectives that explore the idea of transmission as the passage of information, energy and ancestral identity between people involved in an encounter.

The curatorial focus of the showcase, now in its third year, is on particular methods of inscribing subjectivities within the friction between past and present. These three works look at memory through very different perspectives, yet all of them draw narratives in the present that shift our perception of the identities and histories of the people we see on stage. Words — sung, performed, danced — create fictions and friction between the three elements involved in collective transmission, namely: me, you, and us. At the same time, far from trying to define them or relate them to a particular concept, we witness these words becoming a dismembered decantation of an experience. These works indicate this process, in transmission and in the present, as newness emerges from the specific relations between words, subject and context.

In this setting, words from the past are refreshed and transfigured, and can be received in new ways. Here, words are not diverted by obstacles during their communication. They ignore boundaries and penetrate the barriers that separate us. These word-experiences, permeated by emotions, inheritances and tensions, split up into small molecules to softly perfuse the membrane dividing “I” from “other”. Within this intense, generous transference, we can witness small glimpses of vivacity, as these varied forms of transmission further suggest the relationship between each artist and their expectations for the future.
